EUROLakes project: first consortium meeting in Germany

On 8-9 April, we organised EUROLakes’ first consortium meeting in the scenic town of Radolfzell am Bodensee, Germany. This was the first official meeting of the project’s partners since the kick-off in September 2024 near Lake Vico in Italy.

Representatives from the 13 partners of the project gathered during two days to share updates on the progress by work package and discuss on the next steps.

The event was opened by Udo Gattenloehner, Director of Global nature fund (GNF), who hosted the meeting and shared how a deep love for water sparked their commitment to EUROLakes. He also spotlighted GNF’s inspiring restoration efforts, from Colombian wetlands to Burundian shores and Asian mangroves.

Our director Chris Baker and our Freshwater policy officer Irene Duque Femenia then took the floor share their vision for restoring wetlands through an open dialogue based on a “lagoon of knowledge” accumulated through citizen science, nature-based solutions, projects’ findings and policy implementation.

Each work package-lead also took the floor to present their updates and timelines for the project’s deliverables. Elton Mudyazvivi from Wetlands International led a session on our restoration methodology, the 4-Returns Framework (4RF) for landscape restoration. He delivered a 4RF short learning program content and modality, that was followed by a productive discussion amongst partners.
