- Part time or full-time (full time =36 hrs/week)
- Reimbursement: maximum of 465 EUR/month, based on 36 hour week.
- Contract duration: Student contract (Belgium or Dutch university), minimum 3 months
- Location: Belgium (office in Brussels) or the Netherlands (office in Wageningen)

About Wetlands International Europe
Established in September 2013, Wetlands International Europe is the single network organisation in Europe bringing together NGOs whose shared mission is to inspire and mobilise society to safeguard and restore wetlands for people and nature. We operate a growing Secretariat, with our key priority to raise the voice of our members in Europe, share knowledge, improve policies and build capacity among stakeholders. Overall purpose of the internship
This is an exciting opportunity to inspire the public to take action for Europe’s wetlands! The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker, capable of gathering fact-checked data on wetland restoration best practices and developing digital content for our social media channels (visuals, short videos, stories). The post-holder will also support the team in organising our general members meeting; a major internal event gathering representatives of each member of our network.
Roles and responsibilities
1. Research and science communication
- Gather content regarding wetlands restoration best practices in Europe;
- Present the data in an accessible language, easy to understand for a non-wetland experts (general audience);
- Explore creative avenues to present in an entertaining manner the data.
2. Social media
- Monitor and manage our social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn);
- Develop creative content and materials to advertise our major events and activities: create visuals, draft posts, edit short videos etc;
- Ability to react quickly to the publication needs;
- Team-working with the Communications department.
3. Events organisation
- Assist with the organisation of our general members meeting;
- Attend virtual and physical preparation meetings, giving inputs and taking notes;
- Develop communications plans with the event teams;
- Ad-hoc support as necessary.
4. General external communications
- Assisting in keeping our website up-to-date;
- Some data and analytics gathering;
- Assisting in drafting and sending our newsletter.
Working relations
INSIDE Wetlands International: Working with Wetlands International Europe´s team including colleagues in other offices. The postholder will report to the Senior Communications Officer.
OUTSIDE Wetlands International: Partners, members and other key stakeholders.
Profile
- A team player;
- Creative and visual;
- Basic knowledge of design tools such as Canva and/or Adobe;
- Understanding of nature conservation issues;
- Ability to conduct research using verified information and reliable sources;
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English;
- Knowledge of wetlands restorations practices is an asset.
What we offer
- Only applicable to students. His/her educational institute should be able to provide an Internship agreement to be signed among the three parties.
- Part time or full-time (full time =36 hrs/week).
- Reimbursement of a maximum of 465 EUR/month, based on 36 hour week. The Intern will be asked to register hours and submit a monthly expense claim.
- Contract duration: Minimum 3 months
- Location: The intern will be based in Belgium (Brussels office) or the Netherlands (office near Wageningen University). Teleworking allowed.
- Start date: summer 2026
