Biodiversity Assistant

Hi, my name is Douwe de Haan, and I’m a 24-year-old student from the Netherlands. From a young age, I developed a strong love for the ocean, its incredible environments, and its wildlife. This passion eventually led me to study Coastal and Marine Management, where I have been able to follow that passion and work towards a career in which I can contribute to protecting these environments.

As I’m now reaching the final stage of my studies, I’ve been given the opportunity to complete my thesis project at Wetlands International Europe. Here, I’m supporting the development of a European coastal wetlands programme. My research focuses on coastal wetlands across Europe, looking at where important areas may still be insufficiently protected and where Wetlands International could potentially help strengthen their conservation.

I’m super excited to be part of the team, learn more about wetland conservation, and hopefully make a useful contribution to the development of the programme!
