Mediterranean wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate, threatening water security, biodiversity, and local economies in one of the regions most exposed to climate change.

Building on the latest findings of the Mediterranean Wetlands Outlook (MWO-3)  released at Ramsar COP15, this event highlights the urgent need to protect and restore wetlands as strategic natural infrastructure for water security, climate adaptation, and socio-economic resilience. With 56% of Mediterranean wetlands already lost, the discussion will also showcase practical solutions and successful cooperation examples from across the region.

Co-hosted by MEP CΓ©sar Luena (S&D) and MEP Jutta Paulus (The Greens) at the European Parliament the event will bring together EU policymakers, Mediterranean partners, and experts to explore how wetland restoration can support EU water and climate objectives, strengthen regional cooperation, and contribute to sustainable growth and stability.
