In collaboration with Centrum Ochrony Mokradeł (Wetlands Conservation Centre) and Aeco, we bring together experts to discuss the future of peatlands restoration through the experience and future work of both organisations.

During this event, Centrum Ochrony Mokradeł (CMok) will give more insights into three large-scale State Forests projects in Poland. The first aims to improve wetland habitats protected under Natura 2000. The other two projects involve improving water retention, with one focusing on lowland areas and the other on mountainous regions. Water retention projects also include measures to enhance landscape retention and restore wetlands. CMok acts in an advisory capacity in all of the above projects.

On the other hand, Aeco will present how private-sector financing via carbon markets can speed up peatland rewetting across Europe. Working together with leading wetland conservation organisations and local partners in Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia, Aeco develops rewetting projects that benefit all stakeholders, especially landowners and farmers. The talk will share the first results from projects in Germany and Latvia and give an overview of the growing pipeline across four countries. It will also cover what it takes to scale up from individual pilots to a portfolio of 100,000 hectares, including key lessons and remaining barriers such as permitting and land access.
