Walking Rivers 2026 edition: “Sounds of a River”

About the event
Walking Rivers is a global initiative inviting people to walk along their local rivers and celebrate their beauty and importance. This year, for the 2026 edition, the theme is “Sounds of a River”, encouraging participants to experience rivers in a new way: through listening, reflection, creativity, and movement.
Since its launch, WalkingRivers has united over 7,000 people across 200+ routes in 30 countries on five continents, creating a vibrant global community advocating for rivers.
Co-organised with our member the Iberian Centre for River Restoration (CIREF), and the Water Observatory of the Botín Foundation, we encourage through this event individuals and communities to reconnect with rivers, from urban streams to countryside waterways, with the simple act of walking.

How to participate?
Step 1: Choose a 5–7 km stretch along your local river
Step 2: Register your walk by April 20, 2026
