LIFE AWOM project public statement regarding the Senegal Delta Bird Ringing Station and the West African Bird Ringing School

Published on:

Public statement, Brussels, 29 October 2026

The LIFE Aquatic Warblers on the Move (LIFE AWOM) project wishes to clarify that the activities associated with the Senegal Delta Bird Ringing Station (Station Ornithologique du Delta du Senegal) and the West African Bird Ringing School (Ecole de Baguage d’Oiseaux d’Afrique de l’Ouest), are neither endorsed, approved, nor supported by the competent national authorities, and are not associated in any way with the LIFE AWOM project.

This clarification is issued in light of communications received from the Direction des Parcs Nationaux (DPN) of Senegal, the authority responsible for authorising and overseeing activities within Senegal’s national parks, which has confirmed that these initiatives do not have its authorisation or endorsement.

Furthermore, LIFE AWOM is not affiliated with, involved in, or associated with the Senegal Delta Bird Ringing Station, the West African Bird Ringing School, their representatives, or any activities undertaken under their names.

Any actions, communications, projects, training courses, research activities, or requests for collaboration conducted by the Senegal Delta Ringing Station are/or the West African Bird Ringing School are conducted independently and do not represent LIFE AWOM, its partners, or the objectives of the project.

LIFE AWOM remains committed to working closely with the relevant national authorities, local stakeholders, and conservation partners to ensure that all bird-ringing activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, established scientific standards, and internationally recognised bird-ringing principles and best practices.

For any questions regarding LIFE AWOM activities in Senegal and West Africa, please contact the project coordinator, Wetlands International Europe, directly.
