The European Commission has ongoing public consultations to hear its citizen’s view on the upcoming laws and policies. Currently there is a proposal for a regulation on the European Climate Law- achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

This Climate Law is to ensure that the EU policies contribute to the goal of reaching carbon neutrality and all sectors of the society works towards executing the law. We, as Wetlands International European Association, submitted our feedback stressing the importance of peatlands and wetlands in the fight against climate change.

We are suggesting a roadmap to a transformation pathway to reach net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 with legally binding targets for land use activities on peatlands.
