Privacy Policy

Wetlands International is committed to protecting your privacy and using technology that gives you an effective and safe online experience. This Statement of Privacy applies to Wetlands International’s global website and governs data collection and usage. By using the Wetlands International website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

Wetlands International does not sell, rent or lease customer lists to third parties. Wetlands International may, from time to time, contact you on behalf of external partners about a particular situation which may be of interest to you. In those cases, your unique personally identifiable information (e-mail, name, address, telephone number) is not transferred to the third party. In addition, Wetlands International may share data with trusted partners to help us perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. Comments

If you leave comments on a blog posted on wetlands.org, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. This is covered by the Gravatar service privacy policy. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Other visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Email newsletter

We use a third party platform, MailChimp, to manage our email distribution lists. If you choose to register for our email newsletters by clicking “Subscribe” on our Website, you will be presented with a secured form, hosted by MailChimp, in which you will be asked to provide your Personal Information, which includes your email address, and you will be asked to select your mailing preferences. Any information you submit through this secured form is provided directly by you to Mailchimp and is also subject to MailChimp’s privacy policy. We have a data processing agreement in place with Mailchimp, as we are the controller of such Personal Information provided by you to Mailchimp and as we have the right to access such Personal Information and process the Personal Information.
We may on occasion send special notices to all or some newsletter subscribers, such as notifications of publications or events.
If you have subscribed to the newsletter, you may unsubscribe at any time using the link at the end of the newsletter or via this link.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect analytics data of visitors to wetlands.org. This is set to anonymise the IP address of visitors, so we cannot identify you from this data.

Your data is shared with third-parties which provide services to wetlands.org, as follows:
Website traffic statistics is via Google Analytics. This data is anonymised. You can read more about how Google uses the information from their statement.
Donations are via PayPal or via Mollie iDeal payments, and are affected by the privacy statements of Paypal and Mollie respectively. If you choose to make a donation by clicking “Donate”, you will be transferred to PayPal or Mollie’s secured form.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment on a blog posted on wetlands.org, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
We hold your information for only as long as necessary for the purpose needed. If you apply to work or volunteer at Wetlands International, we will use the information you supply to us to process your application and to monitor recruitment statistics. If you are unsuccessful in your application we will keep your personal information for 12 months. If you request us to hold onto your information for future opportunities we will keep your information for this purpose only for 12 months.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments on a blog, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. You also have the right to request that we erase any personal information we hold, where Wetlands International has no compelling reason to continue processing this data.
