In November 2005, Malta applied for a derogation under Article 9 of the EC Birds Directive, which would allow the hunting in Malta of two species, Common Quail Coturnix coturnix and European Turtle Dove Streptopelia turtur, during their spring migration. This report assesses whether the application for this derogation by Malta meets the terms of the Directive.
