Leading Conservation Organizations and Experts Call on EU Commission to Address Lead Pollution in Outdoor Activities

In a joint effort to combat the ongoing environmental threat posed by lead pollution from outdoor shooting and fishing activities, Wetlands International Europe has joined a coalition of prominent conservation organizations and experts that has penned a compelling letter to Commissioners Thierry Breton and Virginijus Sinkevicius. The letter highlights concerns over the delay in presenting a crucial proposal to amend REACH Annex XVII, aimed at restricting lead usage based on the recommendation of the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) presented already in 2022. The letter urges swift action to mitigate the harmful impacts of lead contamination on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Joining forces, these influential voices advocate for proactive measures to uphold environmental integrity and safeguard biodiversity within the European Union.
