Several CSOs met with the 3rd Caravan for Integral Ecology to exchange stories about how mining affects local communities in Latin America.
On 23 September, Wetlands International Europe, together with other CSOs working with Latin America, had a meeting with the 3rd Caravan for Integral Ecology in Brussels, organized by CIDSE.
The 3rd Latin American Caravan for Integral Ecology was conformed by nine representatives from Latin American territories (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Peru) affected by extractivism and mining.
The Caravan was organized by the Network of Churches and Mining (RIM), the Indigenous Missionary Council (CIMI) and REPAM (Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network) and visited Spain, Belgium, Italy, Austria, France and Germany to inform about the situation of their territories due to contamination and violation of rights and the new extractivist logics.
Additionally, they shared proposals from the communities to stop the irreparable advance of climate change and promote other economies in defence of life.
