WET HORIZONS: Upgrading knowledge and solutions to fast-track wetland restoration across Europe

Home » Home » Our Work » Peatlands » WET HORIZONS: Upgrading knowledge and solutions to fast-track wetland restoration across Europe

WET HORIZONS aims restore wetlands by enhancing knowledge and developing tools for large-scale action. The project improves data on peatlands, floodplains, and coastal wetlands, model restoration effects, and analyses socio-economic impacts.

Therefore, it involves citizen science and digital tools, including an app for wetland visualization and a decision support system. These tools will enable informed decision-making, minimise trade-offs, and prioritise restoration efforts. The project aims to maintain a dialogue with policymakers and stakeholders to ensure relevance and promote legislation for protecting and restoring European wetlands, maximising climate and biodiversity benefits.

Wetlands International Europe promotes cross-project cooperation and co-production with national and international policy networks to develop novel governance approaches for scaling up wetland restoration. We generate new insights on policies and practices, perform a governance analysis, and develop polycentric governance models.
