Proceedings of an IWRB Symposium Astrakhan, USSR, 2-5 Oct 1989

Managing waterfowl populations proceedings of an IWRB Symposium. The symposium was attended by more than 150 scientists from all over the world, the largest international meeting ever to have occured on the Volga Delta. Aside from the technical presentations and the opportunity to visit the Delta, the symposium provided participants witht he opportunity to meet counterparts often working on the same species but during a different part of the annual cycle.

Description:

Many collaborative projects have subsequently been initiated. Perhaps the strongest message to emerge from the meeting was the urgent need to pursue monitoring, research and conservation action at flyway level, if these actions are to be successful.
