Our Member CMok – the Wetlands Conservation Center in Poland, developed carbon schemes principles for the rewetting of peatlands. This document is an English summary of the principles developed in Polish.

CMok developed principles for the peatland restoration carbon credit certification scheme. The initial principles were presented at the World Wetlands Day event Pact for Wetlands organised by CMok in February 2023.

This summary is a first step was to develop the main rules of the system, based on best practice from foreign standards. Additional work on the carbon offsets certification scheme is currently in progress, including a methodology adapted to Polish local conditions. The proposed principles for carbon credit certification schemes at Polish level are: measurability, verifiability, transparency and credibility, conservative approach, permanence, additionality and sustainability.
